December 2023 Newsletter

From the President

The bowling season is now well and truly underway with Club champs, interclub and tournaments regularly taking place, along with trade bowls and social functions. Many thanks to the helpers who volunteer their time to organise and run these events.

Plans have been approved and quote accepted for our bar refurbishment. It is hoped that work will be completed early in the new year.

Last week the green was unfortunately damaged by an unusual weather event in the form of a mini tornado. Stu has made some temporary repairs, but more work may be required at a later date. Let’s hope it doesn’t affect our bowls too much.

Finally, as this is the last newsletter for the year, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and happy new year. Have a good one.
Tom

Mens Junior Singles

A reminder that two rounds of singles need to be played soon and must be played by the dates on the sheet.

Jackets

Our new Wanaka jackets will be in the club next week. Let us hope they will ensure us a fine summer and we won't need to wear them!

Reserve these dates

The Matt Ecroyd tournament which was postponed in September will be held on Monday December 18th starting at 12.30pm and the entry form is on the wall in the clubhouse. It is a mixed tournament with a clubhouse draw. It is a good day with good sponsorship from Matt.

Any enquiries to Jan Allen or Fin McRae.

We finished fourth in the round robin. It was a big weekend of bowls with 4 games on Saturday and 3 games on the Sunday. If you ever get to play in this I totally recommend the experience. The comradery is great.

We are very proud of our ladies, from left Heather Malcolm and Rae Hammond. On Sunday 12 November our ladies played in the 1-5 year pairs in Queenstown.

They played through the qualifying rounds, then semi final and then just missing out by one shot in the final.

Well done ladies.

From the Editor

Some new and keen bowling juniors are appearing in our club. Under "coaching" on this website and under the submenu "Book Reviews" there are a couple of bowling books reviewed. Coach Tom Malcolm tells me the Ian Schuback  book is the best he has ever read and Tom has read it several times. (Same for me).

I have both books so if you want to borrow contact me (Barbara) via the publicity email.
