July Newsletter 2023
From the President
Hello from the Sunshine Coast in Australia.Heather and I are presently in Maroochydore catching up with family, friends and a little bowls, along with some warmer weather (25 degrees yesterday)
Not a lot to report this month apart from the AGM on the 17th June which was well attended and Board and Club administration positions now confirmed.
Winter bowls is now well underway with Wednesday/Thursday sessions well attended although Monday evenings and Stadium championship events have seen lower entries, perhaps due to age, illness, holidays or just too cold to venture out.
Remember it is always warm in the Stadium and is worth coming along for a social time.
Best of luck to Todd Swain,Mark Daniels and Ken Allison taking part in the National Champion of Champion triples in Dunedin.Ken is a substitute for Murray Finn who is unavailable to play.Hope to see the boys on some live streaming.
Stay warm,
Tom
A huge thank you to Madeleine Wilson our outgoing Secretary. Mads has been a mainstay of our Board for the past ten years and her input into the Club has been invaluable. Mads – you will be sorely missed by all – enjoy your retirement. Pictured at our AGM Saturday 17 June with Tom Malcolm (President)

Person of Interest: Margaret Parker

Margaret's previous life in Auckland was as an extraordinary business women. She was highly committed to balancing 2 jobs at once.
Margaret was the buyer and worked 3 days a week in the family Pro Tennis business which received all the business from the main Auckland Tennis Arena. The other 4 days a week she made Wedding and Special Occasion Dresses from her large home with the label "A Real Gem" This spanned 15 years. She had a fitting room, cutting room and sewing room. She was still playing competitive tennis at this time as well as being a grandmother to her growing family. Its no wonder that Margaret confesses to feeling that she is on holiday all the time in Wanaka.

Some of you may have watched some of the Australian Open games on You Tube or Sky Sport. I didn't watch them all but this game I really enjoyed. Noeline Dutton put out our NZ rep and Commonwealth medalist Katelyn Inch in an earlier round. Singles Round 16 Dutton v McKerihen Click Here
There will be more games coming up with the Champ of Champs scheduled to be played from this weekend through July. To be notified of live matches subscribe (for free) click here.
