March 2024 Newsletter

From the Editor

Have you all been watching the Nationals Fours and Mixed Pairs? Some fabulous draw bowls on the lovely Paritutu outdoor greens. A nice 17 seconds according to the commentator and  although the flag was flying in the wind, there were great draw bowls. What a contrast to the greens at Naenae earlier in February where the gale force winds caused havoc in the Trans-Tasman clash. Pitty we didnt get to watch the Clyde men's team who got to the semi finals. Click here for my match pick of the men's fours last 16s match

Commentator also commented on the 2x4x2 format in the Mixed Pairs where both players get to be lead, skip, and singles. Champ pairs is normally 3 bowls each with a lead and skip. I have also played 2x2x2x2 pairs which was a lot of fun but time consuming with lots of walking. Commentator mentioned the old pairs game I understood to be 4 bowls each with skip and lead, also the other quick pairs game of two bowls each apparently played up North a lot. Sounds like fun...

Anyway this last 16 game on 28th Feb Bellis/Bellis v Huywler/Atkinson is a cracker Click Here

February Corporate Events Report

Firstly, thank you to Fin McRae for organising and running the Aspiring Wanderers on Thursday the 22nd.  I understand they brought their lunches and enjoyed a lovely morning.
Secondly - Sally Angus and her helpers ran a successful Sat 24th morning for a private booking of 20 odd people prior the Saturday Pennants.
Thank you to all the helpers.  It is a great benefit to the bowling club marketing and finances.

It means that apart from our membership who access our newsletters, homepage etc, the bookings page and information for casual visitors are the next most popular. I hope you can read the figures.
