Winter Bowls

Get ready for another exciting season of winter bowls. The sheets are now up in the stadium and you can enter your name as many times as you wish. You must turn up otherwise ring the controller as the next on the list gets your space. (Progressive on Fridays continues as usual without names in) If you are new to our system you are required to put your name up each time you want to play and you usually need to put your name up at least a week prior. Stadium Bowls commences Tuesday 20th.

Other Changes to Winter Bowls:

There is a sheet up for Tuesday afternoon sessions of 2x4x2. We are hoping there will be sufficient interest.

Prepaid Stadium Cards:

These will be available again from the bar. You can either pay with your card or pay as you go $5 a time with the controller. Treasurer Raewyn Hall advises these will not be available to purchase near the end of the season.

Party / Awards Night

On 13th April we had some 50 club members / family gathered together. The social committee catered with some tasty snacks Click here for the Lavosh and Cheese Ball recipies. This was followed by salads, and burgers. Very tasty. Jill Hill held a very funny bowls quiz unfortunately some of us got none correct!! Names of Champ winners refer to Champs page.

Clubhouse Painting

Our painting crew smartened up the front of our clubhouse at the beginning of April. Here they are having a well-deserved rest. Thank you to everyone who helped. Especially Ken Mitchell who organised and did all the preparation work.

Corporate Events April 2025

3rd April: - Huddle Group:- hired the Faulks room for a team meeting.  No helpers required, but Mark opened and closed for us.
18 & 19th (Easter) - The Mitchell reunion was held with a meet, greet & BBQ on the Fri and a busy Saturday afternoon/evening with 50 of us enjoying the facilities. - many visiting are impressed by what we could offer.  Great weekend.

Please note: that going forward, the Board has agreed that the Faulks room will not be let to public events except for Members Private functions and Community Fundraisers.  Too many glitches and hassles to content with!
We are a Bowling Club and that is what we'll only be offering in the future.

Three events already booked for the first 2 weeks of May.  Helpers may be called on to assist.  Thanks Kathryn

Womens Final Days..

Congratulations Ferns 2nd April: Bev Mee, Nick McDonald, Jenny Sawers.

Congratulations winners of the Wellman Electrical women's 2 bowl Tournament held 9th April. It was our last clubday for this season and the weather was great. Jo Stock, Helen Allison, Judy Briggs

Wanaka Quick Mixed Singles (QMS)

We had 6 days of QMS in good Autumn Conditions. $5 to enter. Each game was random draw from pack of cards e.g. 2 of diamonds plays with 2 of hearts on rink 2. After an hour second game also random draw of the cards but winners v winners, losers v losers. We play with 4 bowls but only get 1 point for winning the end. That way you are always in with a chance and not suddenly beaten. If there is an uneven number then 3 play on a rink with 3 bowls and still only 1 point for the end. After the first 2 days we altered the division of prize money and just gave out $10 prizes until all money was paid out. That way even if you lost the first game you were still in with a chance and a winner of first round not guaranteed a prize. It was easy to work out the differential. We always had 10 or 11 players.

Continuing our tour around the region... Patearoa

Travel from the picturesque township of Ranfurly some 20kms along a straight road surrounded by flat green pastures of sheep and cattle to Patearoa and you will find  the Patearoa Bowling Club.  The club is part of the sports domain which also features a flat, green, parklike golf course. There is a natural bowling green and good hospitality offered should you travel there for a tournament.

The club has 12 members, 9 men and 3 women. There are plenty of other clubs not too far away: Middlemarch, Naseby, Ranfurly and Waipiata so there is a good choice of greens in the immediate surrounds for the Maniototo subcentre. Patearoa was proud to host for Bowls NZ: Fours and mixed pairs in February 2023.

The elevation is about 400 metres above sea-level, similar in altitude to Wanaka. It is on the furthest edge of our bowling area on the south edge of the Maniototo basin. If you require food or coffee away from the Bowling Club the closest can be found in Ranfurly. The popular biking rail trail runs through the area so dinner bookings are required during the season.

Great TV Watches

Apologies. I think the 11 hour time difference was converted to our time incorrectly and you would have just missed Tayla Bruce game live with the last email advice. Links below. (Note Tayla changed to a wider set of Taylor Bowls for the World Champ Series)
