Niue Bowling Invitation

We've had the President of the Niue Bowling Club visiting our Club over the weekend and he has extended an invitation to the Wanaka Bowlers to go over for a week in May 2025.
We'd probably leave via Queenstown Airport, overnight in Auckland, flying out 9am Sat to return the following Sat 5pm and reverse the flight plan to get home.
If this is something you'd like to do, please contact Kathryn & Ken Mitchell at: ken.kathryn@xtra.co.nz or 0274437950, or Rhonda Hurley at: hurleyrs@xtra.co.nz - 02102707758 to register your interest.
(we need numbers to ascertain availability of accommodation etc, as a small Island)

Storing your Bowls

Lawn bowls are made from a composite material that can expand and contract with temperature changes. Avoid leaving your bowls in extreme heat or cold for prolonged periods. Store your bowls in a cold, dry place when not in use. Sudden temperature changes can affect the shape and balance of the bowls, ultimately impacting your game.

Repainting your Bowls Logos

We covered this in the April 2024 Newsletter, but a better way to learn is on You Tube. Click here
At the Bendigo shop, Victoria Australia it costs $70Au. according to the shop website. You can also get your bowls recalibrated and date stamped there.

Around our District
During our season, we'll take a trip around the Central Otago Bowls (COB) district which stretches from Queensrown to the Maniototo sub-centre. Let's start at the Queenstown club which has a spectacular location in the Queenstown Gardens overlooking Lake Wakatipu and with an historic pavilion. It can be a challenge to navigate the Frankton traffic to arrive on time for your game, and parking adjacent to the club is limited. The club has 38 members (24 men, 14 women) and notable players are Margaret O'Connor (51 centre titles) and Jane Anderson (21 centre titles).

Women's Spring into Bowls Tournament 19 September

We had 10 visiting teams and 6 of our own teams making up a full green. Weather as promised offered a heavy shower after lunch so we finished our game in the stadium and then went back out to the sun for the final game. Prizewinners were Hawea, Clyde and Queenstown.
A good turnout for Men's Opening Day

About 30 men enjoyed a BBQ on Monday 16 September followed by Bowls. It's been good to see a number of new players joining the club this year. The regular Monday afternoon club days are proving to be very popular, and all Men are welcome to come for the two games and the associated fellowship.
Women's Opening Day 11 September

Lovely weather for playing outside and over 35 women for lunch and bowls. It was a day for catching up with friends as some not seen for a while over the winter. (Not all the women pictured)
